Fourth of July Extravaganza

There’s plenty to get excited about when you’re looking forward to the Fourth of July celebrations; the parades, the carnivals, the barbecues, the beach parties – but we all know that the best part of any Fourth of July celebration is the fact that people buy fireworks and hold magnificent displays as a finale to the evening.

A Declaration of Freedom

The Fourth of July holiday, otherwise known as Independence Day, commemorates the day in 1776 when the United States gained independence from the British. The tradition of celebrating with fireworks goes right back to the very first anniversary in 1777, when in Philadelphia there were parades, barbecues, music and fireworks displays.

The Modern Celebration

Since then the holiday has only grown in popularity. It is a day when Americans come together to celebrate their country’s traditions, history and heritage. Since 1870 the day has been a national holiday so people can really relax and enjoy the spirit of the event.

To this day, people celebrate with gusto. Macy’s fireworks display in New York is so spectacular that it is shown on television, and the Capitol Fourth concert in Washington D.C is attended by 500,000 people each year.

And yes, people still buy fireworks, build massive bonfires, and cook up huge feasts in order to eat, drink and be merry with their fellow countrymen.
