Your wood burner isn’t a single entity. It’s made up of a whole range of individual components, and no matter how good your maintenance routine is chances are some of them will need to be replaced from time to time. So, here’s a quick run-through of a few wood burner spares you might need to keep your stove working at its best:
• Cast iron gate. Helps move air through the stove and push ashes down the grate, making the air around the stove much cleaner and therefore being essential to keep it up to scratch.
• Stove blowers. Usually situated in the vent of the unit, the stove blower helps circulate warm air throughout the home.
• Stove pipe thermometer. As you might expect, a stove pipe thermometer monitors the temperature inside the stove and is a key component—without it, your stove could overheat and you could have a fire hazard on your hands.
• Damper. A robust piece of kit which hopefully shouldn’t need replacing very often, the damper gives good grip on the handles of the stove and protects your hands from getting burnt.
• Lid lifter. Essentially, the lid lifter is the handle that allows you to easily (and safely) open and close the top of the stove.
These are just a few components of any stove, and after that you’ve got the likes of stove connectors, catalytic converters and door gaskets. They’ll often need to be replaced every now and again to keep things running smoothly, but with the right stove spares you can keep your trusty wood burner in top condition for years to come.
