The arrival of a kitten into your home will bring great excitement, but with the joy comes a great deal of responsibility. Adorably cute and great at bringing love into any environment, kittens can also be destructive and require a lot of attention.
Before you bring your kitten home, you need to discuss the new arrival with all other members of your household and agree on some ground rules. Everyone needs to clear on the training schedule, who is in charge of each responsibility, and also in which areas the kitten is and isn’t allowed. You should also go round your home and move out of reach any appliances or ornaments that could harm your kitten – as well as those that an inquisitive young cat could themselves damage.
Your kitten will take time to adjust to its new home so make your environment as comfy and safe as possible by creating a warm, secure designated sleeping area and ensuring that all windows are closed and any fireplaces blocked off with a guard. For the first few days your kitten will need to be regularly shown where the bed, food bowl and litter tray are to help it get used to a routine.
Although they are generally not fussy eaters, it is important to feed your kitten appropriate food. There are many varieties of both wet and dry foods for moggies of varying ages, so it is easy to stock up on meals that will give your young pet all the nutrients it needs.
So before you rush in and get a fluffy new addition for your home, just be sure your home is ready for it.
