Advice for Taking Your Pet on Holiday

Everyone deserves a holiday; however, when you’ve got pets, taking that vacation can be much more challenging. It all depends on a few factors, such as where you’re going and the personality, age or condition of your pet.

If you do have a pet and you’re thinking about a holiday the sooner that you start to plan the better. By plan we mean ensuring that potential holiday destinations are  pet friendly. If you’re unsure about this don’t be reluctant to pick up the phone.

When travelling with your pet you need to ensure it’s in tip top health. Are all its medical examinations up to date, what about vaccinations? If your dog is suffering from a health condition then generally speaking it is not going to be amenable to travel.

Travel can be extremely stressful for pets. Most animals don’t like sudden changes in their environment, as this can be distressing. Going on holiday is the ultimate change in the environment and so can lead to emotional and even physical stress.

A big part of going on holiday is travelling. When you’re driving over long distances or taking other forms of long distance transport, there are all sorts of things that stress out your pet. If your cat or dog simply hates travel then you might need to rethink your holiday plans, perhaps using kennel services or leaving your pet with a trusted friend.
