It’s a bit of a misconception to say that cats are wholly independent animals. True, many of their behaviours are self centred and your cat might even be able to hunt mice and small birds, however domestic cats are exactly that “domestic” and so require all sorts of care from you, the owner.
Routine is very important for cats. With this in mind, when you feed your cat you should do so at the same time every day. A cat likes to eat three times a day, and so you should cater for this. Obviously the quality of food is also important and you should choose food that is formulated for your specific cat, e.g. if it’s older.
Although cats use their sandpaper tongue to clean themselves they are actually extremely clean animals. With this in mind, you should make the effort to keep their environment very neat and tidy. In practical terms this means that you should clean their litter trays every day.
Exercise is just as important for you or I as it is for cats and without adequate activity they can become lazy and even obese. In order to counteract this problem you should play with your pet every day, you can get toys to help you with this.
Pets can be deeply loving; however, to get the best out of your pet it is important that you’re committed to routine cat care.
