5 Tips for Social Networking in the Real World

It doesn’t matter how many Facebook friends send digital birthday wishes, for most people the real world and its relationships are the most important side of interaction. Social networking is about the confidence to meet new people and add to existing social groups, so here are five tips for the enthusiastic friend finder:

1.    Take the online back offline. There are plenty of superb websites aimed at connecting like-minded people in the real world. Limit the amount of time and online interaction to encourage real world chats.

2.    A drunken night out doesn’t usually yield the best results. Few folks are playing their A-game when drunk! Everyone’s got that old school mate who’s basically lovely but a CHORE when inebriated – if that mate had entered their life when drunk, would they still be friends?

3.    Clubs and societies are great places to meet like-minded people, especially for those looking to add another fan of something in particular to their friend group.

4.    People tend to alter their social habits with age, leaving gaps where friends leave their lives. It’s tough to replace a lost friend, so don’t enter into social networking with the assumption a replica can be found. Be open to getting on famously with unexpected people.

5.    Make plans to encourage chatter and interaction. Popping out for a drink with someone new can be a little daunting or dull. Arrange an activity to provide a nice conversation base.
