What Is Solar Energy And How Do Solar Panel Systems Work?

People in UK tend to look up to solar systems. The government is motivating its people to use as much renewable energy as possible and minimize the strain on the environment. Therefore, there are a lot of companies that provide you solar installation and maintenance service. But what many people are confused about is the fact that how exactly their Hampshire solar panel systems will work.

Solar energy

We all have sun shining above our heads and it has been here for almost 5 billion years now. It is actually a nuclear reactor that generates energy. The blasts on its surface emits photons which are tiny packets that contain energy in them. They travel all the way through space, 93 million miles, in about 8.5 minutes, to reach to us on earth. According to the studies, we receive enough photons every hour from sun, which is essentially energy, that can satisfy the requirements of energy globally for one year. So, the amount of energy supplied to us globally by sun in one hour is enough to help the people of our planet and gives us enough power using which we can run our appliances and other energy powered items for almost a year.

How solar panels work?

We tend to use solar panels that can help us in using the energy that is coming from the sun. You will see that whenever we talk about using solar energy we always recommend to solar panels that help us in converting the photons from sun and use them as energy for our day to day use. But how it happens?

Well, as stated, the energy from sun comes in the form of photons which are small packets of energy. They are hidden in sun rays and our solar panels are there on our roofs to receive them. When these photons hit the solar cells that are present in our panels, the electrons in cells are knocked out and loose from the atoms. So, when we attach the positive and negative side of a cell to conductors, as they are in the solar panels, an electrical circuit is formed. Therefore, the electron which gets loose due to the hit from photon travels through that circuit which generates electricity for us.

In a solar panel, there are several cells and a complete thorough circuit which helps the loose electrons in travelling. When we use multiple panels, we wire them together in such a way that all the electrons flow in right direction and the generated electricity is then transferred to batteries and to the circuit of our house. Flowing in that circuit, the electricity powers our appliances and this is how we receive the electricity from solar energy. The higher the number of panels we have at our roof, the more solar cells are up for the impact which leads to higher electron flow in the circuit and that, in turn, produces more electricity.

Construction of solar panels

When you walk out to get the Hampshire solar panel systems, you will see that there is a wide range of panels up for grab. They are essentially photovoltaic (PV) solar panels which consist of numerous solar cells. These cells are made up of semi-conductors like silicon. There is a positive and negative layer in it, similar to batteries, which creates a complete electric field.
