Cats are extremely popular, look online and you’d think they rule the world! The Western world’s current obsession with felines brings to mind Ancient Egypt, who worshipped their cats as Gods. It’s been said that cats are masterpieces of nature, and so we owe it to them to look after their welfare. Here are three common mistakes cat owners make:
Be very careful when you adopt your cat. Obviously, if you’re not ready for a cat you shouldn’t get one. Ideally you should have sufficient space for a feline and just as importantly enough money to pay pet insurance/vet bills. Also, and older cat will be easier to care for than a kitten.
Speaking of vets, some pet owners don’t have a very close relationship with their pet healthcare professional. However, a vet is just as important to a cat as the doctor is to the human. They have all the knowledge you need to ensure your pet lives a happy and healthy life, being able to advise you about things like vaccinations and spaying/neutering.
Whenever you get a pet, particularly something that requires a lot of care like a cat or a dog, it is very important that you adapt your home to them rather than expecting them to adapt to your home. Cats can have certain behaviours that might be hard to live with, however this has to be part of why we love them.
